From time to time, all of us will find ourselves in a cycle of victim or being a victim. We point outward to the who, what has caused the event, feeling or outcome of something we DIDN’T want. For example, we lose a relationship we didn’t count on losing whether in business or personal and then blame it on them, or someone else verses taking responsibility for our PART of the outcome. When we find ourselves pointing outward for answers we become smaller, uncertain, and experience a loss of control.
Finding ourselves in the role of a victim is a natural part of being human, so don’t beat yourself up if you find yourself there. It’s staying in that role that can give us results we are not looking for and it diminishes our personal power and certainty. We can never control other people, believe me when I say I’ve tried that before MANY times. What we can control is our own choices, attitude and behavior.
Good news is there a more empowering position we can take. When you find yourself in that victim role or cycle what do we do? The most powerful strategy is to instead put ourselves in a position of creation. What can you create as a result of this situation? Where is your fingerprint on the outcome and how can you learn the lesson and move forward with a new action or behavior? Being the creator in your life is your super power in the world. What can you create for yourself today?
