Energy in and energy out. I’ve been reflecting on this idea of managing all aspects of my energy. The pandemic and various lockdowns, masks and social distancing have taken an unexpected toll on my energy levels. I didn’t notice at first and the other day I saw a group of individuals smiling and laughing with each other. I started thinking how mask have limited the energy exchange of a smile, how keeping 6 feet apart has kept the energy exchange from other people. Yes, I like to have my personal space and yet 6 feet in some instances has limited the exchange of energy. That physical distance has impacted not only my emotional energy and my mental energy. As I reflected I realized that the solution is to perform an energy audit and identify where I may need new habits.
First I explore the physical energy that includes my rhythm and timing – for example when during the day do I do things. It also includes your food, movement & exercise and rest. Did you know the habit of watching TV in bed has scientifically shown to reduce melatonin and can interfere with your circadian rhythm?
Next is my emotional energy – the positive high vibrational emotions. If I’m experiencing low negative energy then it will impact my thinking and my actions. For example if I’m apathetic, I’ll tend to think with victim thoughts, poor me, and will most likely not take any action. On the opposite if I’m feeling joy I will have thoughts of being in sync with the world around me. Our emotional energy has a ripple effect with others and our environment. How do I keep my emotional energy high? For me it usually involves, family and friends and my four legged babies!
Third type of energy is our mental and creative energy. While all energy is an exchange this one specifically is about what you take in, your learning and what you put out, how you implement what you’ve learned. Having balance in this energy is powerful.
Finally there is spiritual energy. How are we connected to something outside of ourselves. If we believe that everything in the world is made up of energy – how do we connect with the rest of the world, the universe. This is actually my grounding energy. Without being grounded I feel totally out of alignment with my environment.
Once you’ve completed an energy audit, where are you with each, who and what might be impacting your energy negatively then you identify something you might need to eliminate or change. The final step of this audit is to identify what are the daily habits you have that is fueling each of these energies where do I have a half full or empty tank. We all need to be recharged and fueled.
Here’s to having a full tank in all of your energy centers.
