Think about that quote from Linda McLean. Where are you going? It is said that we are always moving in one direction or another. Towards what we want or away from what we want. Successful people get this and track their direction. The key is what do you want?
What are your dreams, desires, goals? Have you selected a destination? If not, it’s like living your life without GPS. I mean I would not just get in my car and drive around until I just ran out of gas and then wonder where am I? That’s being lost. And yet when it comes to our dreams and goals have we set a destination and are our choices moving us towards or away from that destination.
The idea of a GPS is a great system as you plan for your coming year and years into the future. You can use this simple acronym of GPS to create a focus and a destination.
G= ONE Goal – Identify your destination and make it SMART. (I’ll share that acronym in a moment.)
P = Priority – Identify 3 priorities. A priority is an interim goal that is measurable and not grounded in a single action – many things must happen for a priority to be accomplished. Make these powerful. Make them so powerful that completing just ONE of the priorities would accomplish your goal. AND make these SMART as well.
S = Strategy – Identify 5 strategies for each one of the priorities. A strategy is a specific action that will be done to accomplish a priority.
This becomes your plan to reach your destination. It’s your focus. Now for that other acronym SMART.
S= Specific M= Measurable A= Action Oriented R= Realistic T= Time Sensitive.
Now you have a system, time to set your destination.
